Privacy Policy
1. Overview
SiteCalc ("we", "us", "our") operates the website sitecalc.com.au — a free collection of trade and construction calculators for Australian tradies and DIYers. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, how that information is used, and your rights under Australian privacy law.
SiteCalc is committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in Schedule 1 of that Act. By using this site you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
2. Information we collect
SiteCalc does not require you to create an account, submit a form, or provide any personal details to use any calculator on this site. The information that may be collected falls into two categories:
2.1 Information collected automatically
When you visit sitecalc.com.au, our web server and third-party services may automatically collect:
- Your IP address and approximate geographic location (country, state, city)
- Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
- The pages you visit, the time and date of your visit, and time spent on each page
- The URL of the page that referred you to this site
- Interactions with advertisements displayed on the site
This data is collected via server logs and third-party analytics and advertising services described below. It is used in aggregate form to understand how the site is used and to serve relevant advertisements.
2.2 Information you provide voluntarily
SiteCalc does not operate a contact form, subscription service or user account system. If you contact us directly by email, we will collect the information you include in that message (your name, email address and the content of your message) solely for the purpose of responding to your enquiry.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. SiteCalc itself does not set first-party cookies. However, third-party services embedded in the site — including Google AdSense and Google Analytics — do set cookies on your device. These cookies are governed by the privacy policies of the respective third parties.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, delete and block cookies. Blocking third-party cookies may affect the functionality of advertising on this and other websites. For instructions specific to your browser, visit your browser's help section or aboutcookies.org.
4. Google AdSense advertising
SiteCalc uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense is operated by Google LLC (or Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. for users in Australia). Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
How Google uses your data for advertising:
- Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve ads to users based on their visit to sitecalc.com.au and other websites on the internet.
- Google may use information about your visits to this and other websites to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you (interest-based or personalised advertising).
- Google AdSense partners (third-party ad vendors) may also use cookies to serve ads on this site.
Opting out of personalised advertising:
- You can opt out of personalised ads served by Google by visiting Google Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalised advertising via the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
- If you are in Australia, you may also use the Your Online Choices tool to manage interest-based advertising preferences.
For more information on how Google collects and uses data in connection with advertising, please review Google's Privacy Policy and Google's advertising policy page.
5. Google Analytics
SiteCalc may use Google Analytics to collect anonymised data about how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as how often users visit the site, what pages they visit, and what other sites they visited prior to arriving. SiteCalc uses this data only to improve the site and its content.
Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to your device on the date you visit the site, not your name or other personally identifying information. SiteCalc does not combine the information collected through Google Analytics with personal data.
You can prevent Google Analytics from recognising you on return visits by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
6. How we use information
Information collected through the site is used for the following purposes:
- To operate and improve the website and its calculators
- To understand how users find and use the site (analytics)
- To serve advertisements through Google AdSense
- To respond to direct enquiries sent by email
- To comply with legal obligations
SiteCalc does not sell, rent or trade personal information to third parties. Information is shared with third parties only as described in this policy (Google AdSense, Google Analytics) or where required by law.
7. Third-party links
Pages on sitecalc.com.au may contain links to external websites — including links to Australian standards bodies, government resources, and product suppliers referenced in calculator explainers and FAQs. SiteCalc is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
8. Children's privacy
SiteCalc is a general trade and construction reference tool not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at the address below and we will delete it promptly.
9. Your rights under Australian privacy law
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access — request access to personal information we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading
- Opt out of direct marketing — we do not send marketing communications, but you may opt out of interest-based advertising as described in Section 4
- Anonymity — where practicable, interact with us anonymously or under a pseudonym
- Complaint — make a complaint about a breach of the APPs (see Section 11)
Because SiteCalc collects very limited personal data (the site has no user accounts or subscription forms), most access and correction requests will be directed to the third-party services described in this policy (Google Analytics, Google AdSense). We will assist you to the extent possible.
10. Data security
SiteCalc takes reasonable steps to protect any personal information it holds from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. The site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption). Calculator inputs you enter are processed entirely in your browser — they are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we use commercially reasonable means to protect information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or you have a privacy concern, please contact us in the first instance using the details in Section 12. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
